Plan for slopes and changing streets
Medway Council’s 2010 conservation appraisal describes undulating ground around St Margaret’s Church, the Cathedral and Castle, with meandering roads and paths around Boley Hill. It notes that some side streets end or become pedestrian paths. Use these references to discuss gradient and route planning, then follow the signs and street layout in front of you rather than assuming a narrow road continues through. Nearby Strood and Frindsbury are useful pickup references; we confirm the exact address with the instructor.
Practise control at a comfortable pace
If gradients are unfamiliar, ask your instructor to work on smooth speed control, safe stopping and a suitable pull-away before adding more complex turns. You can practise reading signs as streets change character and making a calm decision if an expected road does not continue. The appraisal is historic context, not a current guide to restrictions. The DVSA does not publish test routes, so focus on general observation and independent decisions rather than a predicted Rochester circuit.
