Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s 2018 sustainable travel guide maps the B4278 and A4058 alongside High Street, Porth Street, Station Street and North Road. It describes the centre as compact and fairly level. The map is useful for street names and orientation, not current driving directions or restrictions. Build skill as the setting changes
A lesson can begin with familiar local streets and then practise joining a larger road, returning to the centre and adjusting your speed and attention as the surroundings change. Ask your instructor to focus on the situations you find hardest, whether that is reading signs, planning a turn or maintaining a safe position. The DVSA does not publish test routes, so practise responding to signs and directions in different places instead of memorising a route. Follow present-day signs and your instructor’s guidance, as the council map dates from 2018.
