Getting ready for lessons

How often should you take driving lessons?

There is no single timetable that suits every learner. Choose a rhythm you can maintain, then use each session to move a small number of skills forward. We can check suitable dates with one of our vetted instructors.

Choose a schedule you can keep

Think about work, study, caring responsibilities, travel and your budget before requesting lessons. Regular sessions may help you return to a skill while it is still familiar, but a realistic plan is more useful than a pattern you cannot sustain. If you have a test date, include it in your request so suitable dates can be checked.

Give each session a clear focus

Before a lesson, choose one or two goals such as junctions, manoeuvres, meeting traffic or following directions. Afterwards, note what felt steady and what you want to revisit. If you practise privately between lessons, follow the rules for learner supervision, vehicle condition and insurance. Northern Ireland Category B learners whose first provisional entitlement starts on or after 1 October 2026 should check the graduated licensing Programme of Training and logbook requirements.

Adjust the rhythm as you learn

If a skill still feels unfamiliar, tell your instructor and agree when to revisit it. If the plan feels rushed or too spread out, discuss a pace that fits your commitments and the instructor’s confirmed availability. Your next lesson can build on feedback from the previous one rather than trying to cover several new topics at once.

Confirm dates and payment before accepting

We check pickup coverage, preferred transmission, suitable dates and times, and lesson price directly with one of our vetted instructors, then negotiate the best available rate. The offer is held for at least 24 hours. The search fee is paid upfront: £9.99 for up to 10 requested hours or £19.99 for 11 or more, plus optional £25 Priority; we keep it only if you accept. If no suitable offer is found by the agreed deadline or the final held offer expires unaccepted, the full fee including Priority is refunded. Declining any offer closes the entire search and brings the same full refund. Pay lesson fees directly to your instructor on the day of each lesson; no advance lesson payment or deposit is required through this service.
